Die Tour
Walk through the Partnachklamm, a dramatic gorge, and through peaceful countryside to the nearby village of Mittenwald.
Walking through the narrow Partnach Gorge is your first highlight of this hike. Emerging from the gorge, you will walk through small hamlets to the Wettersteinwand close to Elmau with its majestic grey towering cliffs. A few scenic lakes, Ferchensee and Lautersee, are just around the corner and an interesting descent beside a waterfall into the iconic Bavarian village of Mittenwald rounds out this hike.

Weg
- There are buses to the entrance to the Partnachklamm gorge, but the walk is nice too.
- Walk through town upstream along the Partnach river. This takes you out the the Olympic Stadium where the enormous ski jump is the most obvious landmark.
- From there, follow the paved roads and signs to the right, again against the river, towards your final destination. Signs lead along paved trails to entrance, where you pay the entrance fee to get into the gorge.
- The Partnach gorge is one of Bavaria's most beautiful and popular features. It has been a national monument since 1912. A narrow walkway has been carved through the 80 meter deep gorge. It can be chilly, so bring a jacket even on warm days.
- Departing the gorge, you'll be hiking trails again, now heading up to the Alp farms of Graseck, soon reaching the Kaiserschmarrn Alm, a restaurant with good German food and great views.
- The trail continues to Elmau, where you have another nice Almrestaurant, the Elmauer Alm.
- From Elmau the trail continues along the Ferchenbach stream to the crystal-clear Lakes Ferchensee and Lautersee, both great for swimming. There are restaurants and guesthouses at both lakes, and from Lautersee it is possible to finish your hike with a bus to Mittenwald.
- Otherwise the trail the Mittenwald is fairly short and easy, now downhill from Lautersee, depositing right in the center of this idyllic village.
