An den 11. September 2001 erinnert sich wohl jeder Mensch, der diesen Tag erlebt hat. Um die Terroranschläge auf New York und Washington ranken sich jedoch auch viele andere Geschichten, die es wert sind, erzählt zu werden. Zum Beispiel die der kleinen Gemeinde Gander in Neufundland: Am Tag der Anschläge wurden 38 Flugzeuge auf ihren Flughafen umgeleitet, wodurch etwa 7000 Fluggäste aus aller Welt von den heldenhaft improvisierenden Bewohner:innen tagelang versorgt werden mussten. Das Ereignis in dem abgelegenen Ort zeigt eindrucksvoll, zu welch selbstloser und Kulturen überschreitender Hilfsbereitschaft Menschen in einer Katastrophe fähig sind.

Das rasant, emotional und humorvoll erzählte Musical verfügt über einen unwiderstehlichen Celtic Folk-Rock-Score, der sich ganz in den Dienst der Geschichte stellt. Die Broadway-Produktion von 2017 erlebte 1669 Vorstellungen bis Ende 2022 und war damit eine der wenigen Shows, die von der Corona-Krise nicht in die Knie gezwungen wurden. Musicalchef Matthias Davids nimmt sich als Regisseur dieses berührenden Stücks an.Everyone who lived through September 11, 2001 probably remembers that day. However, there are many other stories surrounding the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington that are worth telling. For example, that of the small community of Gander in Newfoundland: on the day of the attacks, 38 planes were diverted to their airport, which meant that around 7000 passengers from all over the world had to be looked after for days by the heroically improvising residents. The event in the remote town impressively demonstrates the selfless and cross-cultural willingness to help that people are capable of in a disaster.

The fast-paced, emotional and humorous musical features an irresistible Celtic folk-rock score that is completely at the service of the story. The 2017 Broadway production ran for 1669 performances until the end of 2022, making it one of the few shows not brought to its knees by the coronavirus crisis.
