Ein wichtiger Teil von Mahlers Universum wird von den kreativen Werken seiner Zeitgenossen eingenommen. Zu den bedeutendsten unter ihnen während seiner Zeit in Steinbach am Attersee gehörte sicherlich Johannes Brahms (1833–1897), der seine Sommermonate unweit entfernt im Kurort Bad Ischl verbrachte. Gelegentlich fuhr Mahler mit dem Fahrrad dorthin, um den alternden Meister zu besuchen, und beschrieb diese Ausflüge mit einem Zitat aus Goethes Faust: „Von Zeit zu Zeit seh’ ich den Alten gern“, eine geistreiche Anspielung auf Mephistopheles, der gelegentlich bei Gott vorbeischaut. Dieses Konzert präsentiert Werke beider Komponisten und Texte aus Mahlers Erinnerungen, die diese außergewöhnliche Beziehung beleuchten.

An important part of Mahler's universe is taken up by the creative works of his contemporaries. One of the most important among them during his time in Steinbach am Attersee was certainly Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), who spent his summer months not far away in the spa town of Bad Ischl. Mahler occasionally cycled there to visit the ageing master and described these excursions with a quote from Goethe's Faust: "From time to time I like to see the old man", a witty allusion to Mephistopheles, who occasionally drops in on God. This concert presents works by both composers and texts from Mahler's memoirs that shed light on this extraordinary relationship.

Významnou část Mahlerova univerza zaujímá tvorba jeho současníků. Jedním z nejvýznamnějších z nich byl v době svého působení ve Steinbachu am Attersee jistě Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), který trávil letní měsíce nedaleko v lázeňském městečku Bad Ischl. Mahler tam občas jezdil na kole, aby stárnoucího mistra navštívil, a tyto výlety popsal citátem z Goethova Fausta: "Čas od času se rád podívám na starce", což je vtipná narážka na Mefistofela, který se občas zastaví u Boha. Na tomto koncertě zazní díla obou skladatelů a texty z Mahlerových pamětí, které tento mimořádný vztah osvětlují.
